This was very apparent when members of the Can Assist Finley Branch were invited to visit Finley High School last week.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) at Finley High School recently had the privilege of hosting Can Assist president Pat Radford and liaison officer Lorraine Edwards for an inspiring presentation.
Students gained a valuable insight into the vital work Can Assist does in supporting individuals and families affected by cancer within our community.
Pat and Lorraine explained how the organisation raises essential funds and the many ways they provide practical assistance to those in need.
In response, the SRC has committed to supporting upcoming Can Assist fundraising efforts.
Initiatives include baking goods for the next fundraiser, collecting cans for recycling, and running a fundraising stall at school to contribute donations.
The students sincerely appreciated the time and dedication shown by Pat and Lorraine and are eager to continue building a strong partnership with Can Assist in the future.

In the latest Finley High School Newsletter, principal Jeff Ward’s first paragraph held an important message for students and communities as well.
This is explained in his own words.
“This week I met with Matt Hannan and Tyrell Ingram from TAFE NSW to put the final agenda together for our NAIDOC assembly early next term.
“NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from Sunday, July 6 to Sunday, July 13 during our school holiday break.
“This year marks a significant milestone, the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, which began as a movement advocating for the recognition and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“The theme for NAIDOC Week 2025 is ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’.
“This theme celebrates the achievements of the past and looks forward to a bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the legacy of ancestors.
“It emphasises the importance of honouring the past, empowering the present, and shaping the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“At Finley High School, we proudly have 34 students who identify as First Nations students, five of whom are in their HSC year.
“Our goal is to continue promoting cultural awareness, equity, and inclusivity, ensuring that all students are given opportunities to learn and grow in an environment that respects and celebrates their heritage.”
Something we can all keep in mind.

There is no doubt David Webb’s family will be keeping warm for the rest of the winter.
He was lucky enough to win the Finley Lions Club wood raffle last Saturday.
Well done, David.
The Lions Club members really appreciate the support given by the community.
