It is back to the classroom for Finley High School’s Year 10 students this week, but they all have a new set of skills to take with them.

Students last week spent time at various businesses across the district, and further afield, as part of the annual work experience program.
Finley High School careers advisor and work experience coordinator Jenny Philpot said the week is all about gaining experience to help the students select thier future careers.
“The program is very worthwhile initiative, I wish I had the opportunity when I was in school,” Mrs Philpot said.

Mrs Philpot and fellow careers teacher Deb White help the students organise thier placement, and offer placement advice if the students fon’t really know what career they would like to explore yet.
“We have a bank of employees who help us out”, said Mrs Philpot.
“Students are encouraged to get out of their comfort zones and explore different opportunities.”
Samantha Catchpool spent the week exploring a career in aged care nursing with Tocumwal Lions Community Hostel.
“It was okay, but I felt out of place for a bit of the time,” she said.
“I helped hand out meals and do activities.
“The people liked my t-shirts, especially my The Beatles one.”
Hailey McLean explored hospitality at the cafe Double Shot.
Hailey McLean chose the hospitality industry for the program, spending the week at Double Shot Cafe.
“Work experience has been absolutely delightful for me,” Hailey said.
“My employer, Tanya, has shown me quite a few things about running a café.
“My favourite thing has to be making milkshakes and bringing customers their orders”.
