Former resident and much-loved identity of Finley, Wendy Maraldo, was surprised recently by a gathering to help celebrate her birthday.
The lifelong group of friends attended the luncheon, at times rather rowdily it was noted, at the Finley RS Club.
Joining Wendy, with several travelling quite a distance, were Shelley Blake (McColl), Diane Gray (Bunce), Tanya Pearce (Doughty), Sharyn Kantarias (Hemphill), June Lotulelei (Furlong) and Sharyn Kantarias (Hemphill).
Rumour has it that the afternoon continued into the wee small hours, courtesy of the Pearce’s shed.

Now that 2023 is in full swing, so is all the activity at Finley Uniting Church.
Being a church means much more than gathering for worship on Sunday mornings.
The congregation believes that church is also about community and connection, so the organisers are excited to introduce the Beyond Sunday program.
Beyond Sunday includes the long-standing activities of Beehive craft group every Tuesday at 1.30pm, Crazy Whist on the second Saturday of the month at 1.30pm, and Fellowship on the fourth Thursday at 2pm.
Also returning soon are movie mornings and the much-loved ‘hymn-a-long’.
As well as these popular activities, the Beyond Sunday program now includes a Spiritual Eldercare service.
Residents of Finley Regional Care will join in for morning tea and worship on the third Wednesday of each month at 10am, as part of their outings program.
Anyone who wishes to share in this worship service is invited to go along.
A contemplative worship service has started at 7pm on the fourth Monday of the month, where everyone is welcome to gather for a time of spiritual reflection for half an hour.
In response to community interest, also being introduced is a digital mentoring program where participants will be able to develop their online skills at their own pace, using their own devices.
Digital mentoring will begin with an expression of interest morning tea on Monday March 27, commencing at 10am at the Finley Uniting Church Hall.
From time to time, it is anticipated joining Saltbush Ministries for fellowship in their online café.
Saltbush is a state-wide Uniting Church online regional outreach which aims to unite the scattered community.
This will begin with a Lent Café on Wednesday, March 8 at 7pm for a half-hour Lenten study around the theme ‘Who do people say that I am?’.
All Beyond Sunday activities offer fellowship, hospitality, encouragement, education and spiritual exploration.
They are open to everyone in the community and are facilitated by the Southern Newell Congregation, Finley Uniting Church.

The Finley Garden Lovers Club had a surprise guest for their February meeting, with Rob Hamilton from Vintage Wood 'n That in Barooga in attendance.
One of February's three special themes was a decorated bird feeder or bird house.
Rob brought along examples of his bird houses and bird feeders, as well as other unique pieces he constructs out of recycled timber.
Rob told members about his early employment and journey through woodwork from early days in his shop in Shepparton to his business now located in Barooga.
The Finley Garden Lovers Club AGM will be held at the Uniting Church Hall in Finley on Monday, commencing at 2pm.
Election of officer bearers is first on the agenda.
Unfortunately, as the current secretary is unable to continue, the group is asking for nominations to fill the position.
At the conclusion of the AGM, afternoon tea will take place and members are asked to take a plate to share.
This will be followed by the March meeting, with table judging, rostering and special themes, making plans for regular presentations and demonstrations to be discussed.
The three special themes for the March meeting are: Busy Housewife, mixed posies from garden; bouquet of dried organic matter; and begonia in a pot.
Table judge will be Val Hand, however one more will be required as Helen McAllister will be standing in as secretary.
