The Darlington Point Skate Park received an additional skate bowl to the existing skate park and Jerilderie received a new skate park and pump track.
The opening ceremonies were partnered with free skate workshops across the council area, hosted by Murrumbidgee Council as part of Youth Week and funded by the NSW Government.
Ms Ley said the Elliot Park facility was perfectly placed, bang in the middle of town near other community facilities.
“I’m told it has been ‘slammed’ by the local youngsters since it was finished a month or so ago,” she said.
“These two parks are among 6,400 community projects already complete or under construction, helping local government across the country deliver upgrades to their local roads, bike paths, community halls, playgrounds, parks and sports facilities, as well as improved accessibility to public facilities.”
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said she is thrilled that the new facilities are officially opened.
“We’re at an exciting phase in the Murrumbidgee Council area, with many new projects recently completed, or very close to it,” she siad.
“All of these have been made possible with significant amounts of government funding.
“Both parks have been a hive of activity since they were completed.
“The new skate bowl was finished just in time for Christmas and the Jerilderie facility, only a few weeks ago.
“It’s tremendous to see so many families and young people making use of these wonderful new facilities.
“The popularity of the Youth Week skate workshops show just how keen our community is on getting out and mastering their skating skills.”
