An awards night was held at the Cobram Italian Social Club with 120 people in attendance on Saturday, November 8.
SES Cobram unit controller Luke Herezo said it was a fantastic night and a ‘mammoth’ celebration.
“These events just highlight the significant contribution that ordinary people within the community are making every single day,” Mr Herezo said.
Various awards were handed out in recognition of the dedication, commitment, and hard work of members and volunteers.

“We started off with employer recognition certificates that were to recognise employees within the community that supported members during call-outs,” Mr Herezo said.
The next awards to be handed out were the supporter awards which included Wilko’s scrap metal who supply SES with vehicles to practise road rescue and Mandy Hawkes from Ritchie’s IGA, which is in its12th year of supporting SES through the IGA family fund.
Other awards included the Victorian and NSW SES long service awards, starting at five years with a certificate and a pin, all the way up to 45 years.
“We had some local unit awards, including most improved member of the year and unit member of the year,” Mr Herezo said.

“And then we rounded the night off by inducting two members.“
Dinner at the awards night was provided by Bellissamo In House Catering, at a discounted rate and Connie's creations provided all the decorations for free.
Mr Herezo said a special highlight of the night was emergency management commissioner Tim Wiebusch’s attendance as keynote speaker.
The following people were also in attendance: Victoria (vic) SES deputy chief officer readiness and response Ray Jasper, Vic SES CEO Robert Purcell, acting senior assisting chief officer (eastern regions) Christopher Brockwell, NSW SES deputy commissioner Daniel Austin, and Moira Shire Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson.
“It was just a good collaboration of recognising member achievements, which I think we did really well,” Mr Herezo said.
