The 13th annual Mother's Day Classic returned to Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton on Sunday, May 11, drawing around 500 people adorned in pink and teal to support breast and ovarian cancer research.

Under sunny skies, the biggest turnout of community members in history walked, ran and paddled alongside the Shepparton Canoe Club around the lake precinct, which was transformed into a sea of pink as participants tackled 2km, 4km and 8km courses.

Local MDC ambassador and three-time breast cancer survivor Kylie Jones shared her inspiring story, highlighting how her passion for triathlons had been instrumental in her recovery journey.

“We laughed, we cried — but above all, we gathered to support, honour and remember those we’ve lost and those impacted by breast or ovarian cancer,” event co-ordinator Kathy Fuller said.

Shepparton was among more than 80 locations nationwide to host the event, which has raised over $47 million since its inception.

This year’s final fundraising total is yet to be announced.

“The Mother’s Day Classic is more than a walk or run — it’s a tribute, filled with love, strength and hope,” Ms Fuller said.

“There’s nothing more inspiring than seeing a wave of pink and teal circling the lake, united for a cause.

“It reminds me why we show up each year.“
