Sarah wrote an essay on the isolation of women in rural Australia and the role the Country Women’s Association (CWA) plays and has played in reducing that.
That essay was judged the best in NSW in the category she entered.
Sarah said she was originally interested in the history of the CWA as a number of her family members have been involved with it.
“The topic of the essay was to look at the causes and consequences of isolation for women in country Australia,” she said.
“This essay competition made me look into a topic I wouldn’t normally.”
Sarah said she was really interested in the history aspect of the assignment, although her main interest in school is related to science subjects.
Finley High School English/history teacher Anne Wadsworth said this was an incredible achievement and something Sarah should be very proud of.
“This term, world history students submitted entries to the National History Challenge as part of their personal interest projects for this class,” Mrs Wadsworth said.
“Sarah Bauer's entry, an essay titled 'The Isolation of Women in Country Australia', was awarded first place in the category of Australian Women's History for New South Wales.
”Her winning essay proves to be a very interesting read.”
Sarah will be accompanied by her mother at today’s ceremony, at which she will have to “do a little spiel to say why I chose the topic and what it means to me”.
