Murrumbidgee Council is calling for expressions of interest from parties interested in leasing the facility on Saleyards Rd.
Under the proposed lease, the successful applicant will secure a 20-year lease at a nominal rate of $1 per year.
A key requirement is that the lessee commits to upgrading the saleyards to modern standards within the first five years of the lease and maintains the facility for the full 20-year term.
If no suitable interest is received, the council will review future options for the site, which may include decommissioning the existing infrastructure.
The council is seeking an experienced and committed operator who can take the facility forward, ensuring it remains an important asset for the local community and livestock industry.
Mayor Ruth McRae OAM said council had previously undertaken a detailed service review of the facility.
“Following a comprehensive review, council determined that it would be in the best interests of the community for the Jerilderie Saleyards to be operated externally under a lease agreement,” she said.
Cr McRae said leasing the facility provides an opportunity for an experienced operator to continue the saleyards’ important role in the region, while ensuring it is upgraded and maintained to modern standards.
Expressions of interest must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, June 27.
