But after much preparation and hard work, the Saints pulled together a very impressive team for the first game of the year.
With Nick Manley at the helm, the group was given their instructions and seemed to tick every box expected of them.
Ben Ackerly played the game of his life using his athleticism to lay tackle after tackle, get in and under backs, and shoot the ball to the outside.
Jacob Orro had a terrific start to his career at the Saints as he stepped into an unfamiliar role in the ruck.
He battled all day, barely losing a ruck tap and playing as an extra midfielder around the ground, getting plenty of the footy.
Kyle Hawker seemed king of the intercept mark in defence, and Stuart Pyle found himself down the other end, getting on the end of numerous goals.
It was a terrific job by the mixed group of reserves that brought some excitement on the day and will continue to do so all year.
Final Score: Tocumwal 4.5 (29) def by Berrigan 6.10 (46).
Fourths:
The Berrigan fourths had a dominant showing on Good Friday, with an astounding 86-point win.
It saw the young lads only concede a single point for the whole game.
The midfield group were firing early with Tom Baxter rucking and Jordan Swann, Jack Magill and Taylor Thornton at his feet - the boys were unstoppable.
Jack Magill used his finesse to rack up possessions and Taylor Thornton got in and under, turning 50-50 possessions into a Berrigan advantage.
Both complemented Jordan Swann’s outside run, as he also found himself on the end of five goals.
Josh Monteath and Lachie Packer used their pace and skill to propel the ball forward and got on the end of a few goals for themselves.
Austin Ware and Paddy Arnold battled hard down forward all day, with Paddy kicking two game-breaking goals.
Final score: Tocumwal 0.1 (1) def by Berrigan 12.15 (87).
