Berrigan’s team was full of debutants, and it was uncertain how the team would gel.
The game was in the balance shortly after the bounce, tipping favourably to the Saints.
Lachie Pyle made an immediate impression in his first game back in the Saints jumper, using his superior intensity to get first use of the footy as he kicked to new full forward Jordan Bird, who flew to take his first of many marks on the day.
Following Bird’s terrific grabs it was goal-after-goal, ending with an incredible 10-goal tally for the day.
Darcy Pyle showed incredible courage and skill down back, floating in front of packs to take goal-saving marks, then bursting off and creating beautiful passages of play purely from his effort.
Dylan Sibraa had a tremendous day out on the park, presenting well up forward and using his grit and determination to break tackle after tackle.
Berrigan’s usual stars showed that they are still top-class, with the likes of Toby Dalgliesh, Adam Way and Lochie Schifferle putting in another terrific performance to push the Saints to a 79-point win.
New coach Mitch Di Petta was over the moon with the team’s performance and deserves a mention for his hard work, which resulted in his first win as a part of the Berrigan Saints.
Final score: Tocumwal 7.8 (50) def by Berrigan 18.11 (119).
