Bob, as he was known, was a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He had a lifetime interest in aviation. Moving from Melbourne to Tocumwal in 1989, he became aware of the latent history of the aerodrome.
In 1995, the year of ‘Australia Remembers’, Bob was elected president of the newly formed Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome Museum (THAM).
For more than 25 years he made a major contribution towards saving, preserving and acknowledging the important elements of Tocumwal's history during WWII.
Notably, he organised two reunions for RAAF and WAAAF veterans in 2000 and 2010. In 2010, the ¼ Scale Liberator Bomber was pole-mounted at the entrance of the Tocumwal Golf Club. It is now safely housed in the new Tocumwal Aviation Museum.
There are monuments, plaques, signs, aircraft replicas and the brilliant blue entrance gates at the aerodrome site announcing arrival at Tocumwal Historic Museum, all thanks to Bob.
He recorded the aerodrome history in books and on CDs and regularly told the story of wartime Tocumwal to school groups, Probus Clubs, Car Clubs, and coach loads of tourists.
Bob's tireless efforts were recognised in May 2022 when he was awarded an OAM.
Bob, aged 96, passed away at Tocumwal Hospital after a short illness.

Local ladies are invited to meet the Women of the Murray Tocumwal coordinator, Jayne, at a social catch up this Sunday, June 14. Jayne will be at Sister Cafe from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Jayne is a proud mum of two boys, raising them along the mighty Murray River and soaking up the simple beauty of small-town life. She is always up for an adventure, a fish, or a yarn by the fire.
At the centre of everything Jayne does is a love for people, empowering communities and creating spaces where others feel seen, connected and valued.
Come along, meet other local women, enjoy a warm cuppa and learn more about Women of the Murray, what they are building across the region and how you can be part of it.

Finley Regional Care Auxiliary’s major 2026 fundraiser is an Open Gardens on Sunday, November 8.
The auxiliary provides funds for essential equipment used by residents to improve quality of daily life in aged care.
Modern special purpose chairs, beds, and mobility equipment are a huge investment.
The auxiliary also provides funds for little treasures for Mother’s Day and Father's Day and supplies for activities and entertainment.
Tocumwal’s Julie Stava is preparing early so they can present the best pots of flowering summer annuals including interesting vintage mid-century concrete planters, quality ceramic and terracotta.
Plant trading tables add an interesting feature to an open garden and add to the funds raised.
All donated containers are washed and time prepared to decide on cuttings and plants that will suit for late spring 2026.
Preparing now provides time to also collect potting mix, long life fertilisers, liquid fertiliser and source seedlings.
It’s about eight weeks from planting containers to flowering, and with herbs and vegetables significant spring growth.
Please have a look in and behind your garage or sheds for pots you no longer have a use for. All donations gratefully received.
Contact Julie Stava 0408 648 494 if you have any items to donate.
