At the recent AGM for the Tocumwal and Cobram SES units combined, Mr Hueston was presented with a replica set of his medals by Cobram unit controller Luke Herezo.
These medals recognise a lifetime of dedication to emergency services across both Victoria and NSW.
“It’s something that’s accumulated over many years,” Mr Hueston said.
“I haven’t done anything anyone else doesn’t do, but when you're in it long enough, they give you medals.”
The medals include VIC SES Life Membership, NSW SES 40 Years Service Medal, NSW VR 40 Years Service Medal, NSW RFS 20 Years Service Medal, VICSES 45 Years Service Medal and the National Service Medal with 3rd Clasp.
Mr Hueston started volunteering with the NSW Rural Fire Service when he was a teenager, and has dedicated himself to the RFS, State Emergency Service and the Volunteer Rescue Association ever since.
Mr Herezo said the SES is lucky to have Mr Hueston on board.
“We are incredibly proud of Peter and all he has given to our unit and community over the past 50 years,” Mr Herezo said.
“His dedication, leadership, and generosity have shaped who we are today.”
Mr Hueston’s commitment, dedication and leadership continue to inspire those around him.
He now spends his time passing on his wealth of knowledge to the new age of volunteers.
“Peter continues to inspire the next generation of volunteers with his wisdom and support,” Mr Herezo said.
“He’s a true legend, and we’re honoured to serve alongside him.”
