OzSort is a two-rider, cattle-sorting sport, that sees cattle moved, in order, into a separated pen.
Each of the 10 cattle are numbered, and the riders must sort the cattle in order from their randomised starting number.
Cattle must stay in the sorting pen and cannot enter the pen out of ascending order.
Since it was first conceptualised, the sport has gone through a few updates and changes, but has remained true to it’s core.
“Originally, team sorting was in teams of four, and that would determine who you had your runs with, and the fastest time of the day would win,” owner-operator Andrew Nash said.
“But your scores didn’t go together, so I didn't see how it was really a team sport because it was just the fastest time of the day, and anybody can get the fastest time of the day.”
So they had a rejuvenation, with the sport now being about getting as many in a set amount of time.
He said the most significant change they had seen over the years is how much the sport had grown, expanding across Victoria and NSW.
At this year’s expo, they’re bringing some new events and demos to the table, so it’s not an event to miss.
“We’ll be doing a demonstration, but this year we’re also going to have some of the kiddies doing demonstrations as well,” Andrew said.
“We’re going to mix it up a little bit rather than just have the two horses going, we will have a little bit of other things going for people to see, so it’s a bit different.”
According to Andrew, equine sport is the fastest growing sport in the country, and he’s excited to show the expo what they’ve got.
“It (the Seymour expo) is a good way to get it out there to people because it’s one of those sports that people don’t know a lot about,” he said.
“So it’s about what we can teach people to do.”
