The local club has been a member of the Garden Clubs of Australia for more than 60 years.
Naomi, who makes her home in Old Tallangatta, spoke of the various benefits of membership with GCA, including insurance and member clubs receiving issues of the ‘Our Garden’ magazine.
October is promising to be a busy time for gardeners in the region.
Finley Garden Club members will be visiting one of the Northwest Horticulture Club member’s well established rural garden for the 2pm monthly meeting on Monday, October 6.
Tonietta (Toni) Mackin is a member of both Kaarimba Garden Club and Tatura.
Her popular country garden at 304 McPhersons Rd, Mundoona, 7km from Wunghnu, is home to a wide range of popular flowing perennials.
Carpooling will be organised for this trip and further information can be obtained by calling Garden Club assistant secretary Jenny Davidson on 0447 574 588.
Toni has established herself in her region with her excellent culinary skills and will have her preserves and biscuits for sale. Members are asked to take along a chair, a plate and a mug.
Trading tables will be available as usual, and the three special categories for October will be: 1. Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia) in water; 2. Flower/foliage arrangement, in a vase, no oasis or pins; 3. Mixed pot of both cactus and succulents.
Members are reminded to take along contributions for the swap and freebie tables. October rostered table judges are Di Krasowski and Maria Merrington.
There are several open gardens during October, including the BOUSA Garden Walk in Berrigan on October 11.
Tickets are available at the Berrigan Community Garden at a cost of $20 which includes morning tea.
Yackandandah Open Garden will be held on Sunday, October 19; Gargarra Garden Party (Girgarre) will take place on Sunday, October 26, and Birchwood Open Garden (near Benalla) will take place November 1 and 2. Funds raised will be contributed to charities.

The Finley Art Network opening of Rose Stenner’s exhibition, which took place on September 11, proved to be very successful and members were delighted with the response from the public.
Rose’s artwork will be featured at the gallery throughout September and early October.
Winner of the great hamper raffled on the day was Jenny Philpot.
An interesting project was put in process recently by president Gail Jolly.
Gail chose a picture of a cat which was ruled up into grids, with some members given a square each to paint.
Once these were completed, the grids were put together and framed by the group’s ‘fixer of anything’, Robert McCullough, a hard worker for the network.
The experience gained with the project was thoroughly enjoyed by the members, and they were thrilled with the result.
The gallery is open Saturday 10am to 3pm and Tuesday 1pm to 5pm. Visitors and new members are most welcome.
