Officially appointed last week and taking on the role from April 7, Mr Boardman is a permanent replacement for Karina Ewer, who departed as CEO last year.
The decision to appoint Mr Boardman followed what council described as a comprehensive recruitment process that attracted strong applicants from across the region and beyond.
Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean said the selection of Mr Boardman represents a significant step for the shire’s future direction.
“He brings extensive experience in local government leadership and is also a proven private sector leader at the executive level,” Cr Corwell McKean said.
“Cameron is looking forward to serving and being part of our Berrigan Shire community.
“We are confident that Cameron will provide strong direction and stability for our organisation and provide the leadership for our next phase of growth and development.”
Mr Boardman’s career includes roles as a state government-appointed administrator and monitor for Casey City Council in Victoria, a member of the Victorian Parliament, and a private‑sector CEO.
Council expects this breadth of experience to deliver both immediate and long‑term strategic benefits for the Shire.
The incoming CEO said he is eager to begin working with the organisation and the community.
"I am humbled to be appointed as Berrigan Shire's next CEO and I compliment and thank the mayor and councillors for the manner in which they applied themselves through this extensive and exhaustive process,“ he said.
“I am excited by the opportunity to represent the shire, to ensure that we do everything we can to continue to make this very special part of Australia a thriving and vibrant community."
Council also acknowledged the leadership of Interim CEO Mark Dupé, who has overseen operations since July 2025.
Cr Cornwell McKean expressed appreciation on behalf of all councillors, highlighting his steady guidance throughout the transition.
“Our councillors are genuinely grateful for everything Mark has brought to our Council and community during his tenure,” she siad.
“His steady leadership has given us the confidence and space to undertake a thorough and considered process in selecting the right person for the permanent CEO role.
“We are also pleased that Mark will remain with council following Cameron’s commencement to ensure a comprehensive handover and a smooth, well-supported transition.”
