M+S adds up 60 years

Senior partner Michael Connick reflected on what all those years mean for the firm.

“It's an amazing achievement in the local community to be still here and growing after 60 years,” Mr Connick said.

For M+S Group Accounting’s first full-time accountant David Thomas, six decades of success comes back to one focus.

“When you have the client in front of you, you treat that person as the most important person in your life,” Mr Thomas said.

“You never let that person go out of the room without offering them something they didn't come in for. That built confidence, that built relationships.”

What began in 1966 as a small taxation practice within the legal firm Morrison & Sawers has evolved into one of regional Victoria’s largest accounting and financial planning firms.

“We’ve become a lot more diversified than just a country accounting firm,” Mr Connick said.

Today, its domestic team serves clients across Kyabram, Echuca, and Shepparton, supported by a global team in the Philippines.

“Relationships are the key to everything, and that’s why we’re so excited about our global team and being a part of the Shepparton, Echuca, and Goulburn communities,” he said.

With an eye on the future, Mr Connick said the firm’s next chapter is shaping up to be an exciting one.

“The addition of five new partners to the firm just sets us up for the next 60 years,” he said.

“We’re very, very confident we’re set up for a really strong future.”
