A great way to spend the day with family and community, the local event also raised $9000 in funding for much-needed breast cancer research.
The national event has garnered a cult following in Tocumwal over the past decade.
The ‘pink fun run’ has become a standout local event to mark in the calendar, and this year was no exception.
Joining locals were entrants from Deniliquin, Wodonga and as far away as Mt Waverley.
In near perfect conditions, many participants also brought their four-legged friends along for the fun.
The course kicked off from the Tocumwal football ground and wove through Tocumwal’s spectacular bushland to the river and back.
Tocumwal’s fun run was organised by local mum and early childhood educator Jenny Philpot.
She was inspired to lend a hand for the fundraiser after seeing the effects breast cancer has on those diagnosed, as well as their families, friends and carers.
“Everyone you talk to has a story about breast cancer, and the only way to keep fighting for a cure is to raise funds for research,” she said.
“The event would not be possible without the support of the incredible volunteers.
“We also want to thank Noonan’s Showcase Jewellers, Miss Daisy & Tumerix for their generous donations for the raffle and the Berrigan Shire Council and its local sponsors for their ongoing support.’’
The Mother’s Day Classic has been raising funds and awareness for vital breast cancer research for 25 years, Australia-wide.
Proceeds are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Participants also had the opportunity to post a note on the tribute wall either online or at the event.
