The show team returned home from Numurkah with a number of firsts and other placings in the beef and handling competitions.
This weekend, students will be competing in three competitions at Deniliquin - beef cattle, dairy cattle and sheep.
Teacher Robyn O’Leary said they will take 13 shorthorns from the Finley High Shorthorn Stud for the beef judging, 10 head of sheep from the Poll Dorset Stud and two jerseys for the dairy competition.
One of the most successful classes for Finley High at Numurkah was the group of two shown by a school competition, with Finley High claiming all three ribbons.
First in the section was the paring of Ursula and Uptown, second was Unreal and Ultima and third was U-Beaut and Uzzie.
“The Numurkah Autumn Beef Show was a great day out,” Mrs O’Leary said.
“The students represented FHS with excellence as they worked as a team and willingly assisted another exhibitor.
“We had early success in the show ring with FHS Unreal, paraded by Ava Schlink, and FHS Ultima, paraded by Cheyenne Tucker, being placed first and second respectively in their class.
“FHS Ursula, paraded by Abbey Tanner, then placed first in the following class, with FHS Uptown Girl, paraded by Lucy Mueller, following her into second place and FHS Uno, paraded by Kate Tilley, in fourth.
“We entered FHS Unstoppable in the under six month class, where he placed first.
“We are fortunate that at this show they have classes for steers and commercial females.
“We entered FHS Uzzie, handled by Ryan Bauer, who placed second over FHS U-Beaut, paraded by Nick Chesworth. Uzzie went on to win the reserve champion steer ribbon.
“These steers will be a part of our Melbourne Royal Carcase team.”
