Man charged over Campbell Rd house fire

A man faces criminal charges after a fire tore through a home in Cobram over the weekend.

Police were called to a house on Campbell Rd on Sunday, June 22, to reports of a mental health incident.

Later, around 2.08pm, the CFA responded to reports of a structure fire at the same address, which quickly engulfed the single-storey brick home.

Authorities blocked off north- and south-bound traffic along Campbell Rd between Punt Rd and Cornish St.

The fire was brought under control by 2.42pm and declared safe just before 4pm.

Paramedics from Ambulance Victoria transported a male patient to GV Health in Shepparton in a stable condition.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Cobram on Sunday afternoon.

He has been charged with criminal damage via fire, and reckless conduct endangering life.

The man is set to appear before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for a committal mention this week.
