Delivered by the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group, two sound bath medication workshops with Barb Anderson and a gelli paint printing workshop in partnership with Edward River Art Society were offered.
Deni MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg, who took time out to attend the meditation in the morning and the art workshop in the afternoon, said she could see the aim of the project in action on the day.
“It really was a lovely day for anyone who took part, with all sessions booked out,” she siad.
“What was really night though, is the afternoon meditation group came to the Multi Arts Centre after the were finished and joined in an afternoon tea with the gelli plate participants.
“They sat dowbn and chatted.
“That is really what it was all about - connecting.
“We also provided a light lunch after the morning medication session, and people chose to stay afterwards and enjoy that together too.”
Mrs Liebenberg said the workshops attracted a good cross section of the district community, with a number of residents coming in from the aurrounding villages to participate.
And she said the age range of participants was 12-82.
The workshops are among the last of the activities to be offered to the community by Deni MHAG using funding from the NSW Government COVID-19 Community Connection and Wellbeing Program.
The final event is the 5 Ways to Wellbeing community celebration in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens this Sunday.
Starting at 3.30pm and running till 6.30pm, the free event has been planned with a lot of input from the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre.
Mrs Liebeneberg said you can come down and simply enjoy time with the community and the free barbecue, or to take advantage of the various family friendly activities on offer.
There will be a series of craft stations which showcase traditional indigenous art practices like wood burning and clap stick painting, string and jewellery making, keyring making and painting stations where you can create decorations using leaves, or utilise seeds and canvasses to create something to take home.
