Local groups urged to apply as cost-of-living pressures drive demand for food relief

State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland is encouraging neighbourhood houses, food relief providers and community organisations across the region to apply for funding.

That can be done via the Victorian Government’s Community Food Security Program, as demand for food support continues to grow.

Ms Cleeland said local organisations were facing increasing pressure as more families struggled with the rising cost of groceries, power bills, housing and everyday essentials.

“Across our region, neighbourhood houses, food relief services and community organisations are seeing more people walk through their doors seeking help,” Ms Cleeland said.

“These are hardworking families, pensioners, single parents and people who never imagined they would need support, but the cost-of-living crisis is biting hard.

“While governments talk about affordability, it is often local volunteers and community organisations who are left carrying the burden and making sure people do not go without.”

The available grants support initiatives that improve access to food while helping strengthen the organisations delivering frontline food relief and community support.

Eligible applicants include neighbourhood houses, volunteer-led organisations, multicultural and faith-based groups, social enterprises, local councils and public health services.

Ms Cleeland said it was important that local organisations secured their fair share of available funding.

“Our community groups do an extraordinary job supporting people through difficult times, but many are being asked to do more with limited resources,” she said.

“Every dollar we can bring into our region helps strengthen the services that local families rely on.

“I encourage every eligible organisation to have a look at this funding opportunity and put forward an application.

“These grants can help local groups expand their reach, support more people and continue the important work they do every day.”

A dedicated funding stream is also available for First Peoples organisations through a partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
