The subject of many of her paintings - because she often paints what’s around her - the Edward River Art Society president wowed with another of her nature pieces at this year’s Deniliquin Easter Art Prize.
Mrs Reid was judged the winner of the Local Artist prize for ‘Yabby Time’, described as a “confident and harmonious” acrylic painting of the Bullatale Creek.
A total of $17,000 in prizes were awarded by renowned artist and judge Antoinette Blyth, and local professional photographer Harry Kenny-Herbert, and revealed to the gala opening crowd on Thursday evening.
The exhibition then opened to the general public on Good Friday, and will now remain open in the Edward River Art Society’s Cressy St gallery until May 2.
The Major Prize was awarded to Nina Volk, for her watercolour featuring a field of cattle, titled ‘Grazing in the Mist’.
Antoinette commented that the work “demonstrates the beauty of the watercolour medium perfectly”.
The other major open prizes were awarded to celebrated Balranald artist Jan Lawler, for her atmospheric oil painting ‘Brolgas’ and to John Orlando Birt, for his watercolour painting of ‘Pellestrina, Venice’.
Mathoura artist Evo Kreykes and Brad Wilson from Barellan were awarded the Youth Artist prizes.
Eight section prizes also were awarded as follows:
• Best Mixed Media - Pam Wettenhall, ‘A Changing Landscape’.
• Best Oil - Maxwell Wilks, ‘Twilight’.
• Best Acrylic - Jennifer Forster, ‘Dry Riverbed’.
• Best Works on Paper (Wet Mediums) - Terry Jarvis, ‘Golden Evening’.
