Liam Mustica from Cobram and Harper Paroissien from Barooga have been selected as the winners of the Lions Junior Public Speaking Region Final.

As the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 winners, respectively, they now go on to represent the region and their respective towns and school at the District Final at Corowa on August 31.
The region final was held in Yarrawonga on Sunday, with students from Tocumwal, Strathmerton, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Tungamah, Finley, Barooga, Jerilderie, and Katamatite participating.
There were 17 students across both age categories, who presented speeches which saw them progress through the school and club levels of competition.
The Year 3/4 students were asked to give a speech on the topic ‘Creative Invention: if you could invent something new, what would it be?’.
The older age group were asked to write a speech on the topic if ‘Technology: The impact of fast-moving technology on our lives and the environment is often overlooked, and yet it can be far reaching. Is technology moving too fast for humans to keep up? Discuss.’.
Year 5/6 students also had 10 minutes to prepare a one-minute speech answering ‘If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?’.
Answers included Italy, America, the entire world, Disneyland, Byron Bay, Hawaii, Japan, and Queensland.
