Wendy Cook’s works, which celebrate the intricate beauty and character of the natural world, are on display at Strathbogie Shire Council’s shipping container gallery throughout February.
Since moving to Nagambie in 2005, Wendy has developed a profound appreciation for the wildlife, landscapes and changing seasons of the region.
Her exhibition, Nature’s Inspiration, brings together a striking collection of nature-inspired realism, featuring detailed paintings of animals, birds and plants in watercolour and pastel.
The exhibition also showcases her much-loved portraits and a selection of expressive alcohol ink works.
Her work reflects a keen eye for small moments, portraying, for example, the detail of an animal’s expression, a delicate wing pattern and the texture of foliage.
Her practice spans watercolour, pastels, acrylics, oils and alcohol inks, and her enjoyment of experimenting across mediums is evident throughout the exhibition.
Artbox’s mobile design enables it to bring creative experiences directly into communities across the shire.
Following the close of the exhibition, the gallery will relocate from Nagambie to Euroa for its next exhibition.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Scott Jeffery said the exhibition offered a timely opportunity to appreciate the restorative side of the natural world.
“Nature can be unpredictable and challenging at times, but it also offers us moments of incredible beauty,” Cr Jeffery said.
“Wendy’s exhibition is a wonderful reminder of the life, colour and character we see across our shire every day.
“It’s a joy to be able to celebrate that through local art.”
Nature’s Inspiration will be on display at the Artbox, currently located at High St, Nagambie, until Sunday, March 1, with 24/7 viewing available.
