Firefighters from Tocumwal and Barooga were yesterday called on to assist the Victorian Country Fire Authority with a series of fires in Koonoomoo.
Discovered in the Cobram Track area of the River Murray Reserve just after 8am, the local NSW Rural Fire Service crews were stood down after about 2.5 hours.
CFA crews continued to fight the blaze into the afternoon, assisted by about 30 CFA tankers and aerial firefighting support.
The CFA confirmed five fires has started in the forested area, with four contained at the time the Southern Riverina News went to print yesterday.
Firefighters were bracing for rough weather conditions yesterday afternoon.
Tocumwal residents are advised they may see or be affected by smoke while the fire is burning.
