The Australian kelpie, developed in the 1800s, has earned widespread recognition as one of Australia’s most capable working dog breeds.
“They’re popular because of their ability to push big mobs around and working through the yards,” owner Paul Macphail said.
“They’ve got good force with the bigger mobs.”
Drawing on over 30 years of sheepdog training expertise, Paul delivers exceptional demonstrations featuring top-quality working dogs at this year’s expo.
“They’ll see good quality pups showing off their natural abilities and instincts as well as the fully trained dogs moving a small flock around the pens,” he said.
Beyond the popular demonstrations, Paul conducts educational sessions in the learning hub, returning this year with additional practical insights.
“We talk about how to train, how to start with a puppy and how to train them right through,” he said.
Farmer, one of Paul’s finest dogs with prestigious Beloka Kelpie bloodlines from the 1990s, will appear at the expo alongside Magic, Cash, and several promising puppies.
This year’s anticipated star performer, Bubbles, will be absent from the expo as she prepares for motherhood.
“They’ll be a few main work dogs and a few up-and-coming puppies to show as well,” he said.
He has been part of the expo for about 10 years and highly commends the event.
“It’s an outstanding expo, well-organised and compact, featuring numerous exhibitors and diverse attractions,” Paul said.
