His introduction in January offered the school access to his 16 years of educational experience, including 13 years in Catholic education and 13 years in leadership roles.
Now, six months later, he said the decision to make the change has been validated.
Before coming to Tocumwal Mr Wilkinson was an education officer at Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd, but knew of the education Tocumwal offered because of his earlier role as deputy principal at St Mary of the Angels College in Nathalia.
It was the school’s reputation as a feeder into St Mary of the Angels that prompted him to make a change.
He said he noted the consistent display of respect, well-roundedness, delightful demeanour, and exceptional leadership qualities in Sacred Heart graduates.
"I have always been interested in primary education, particularly with my previous experiences as an education officer and a primary to secondary school transition leader," he said.
“As soon as the opportunity arose, I was keen to take up the position of principal at Sacred Heart to continue the positive outcomes for the students of the school and to support the school to move into an even brighter future."
Since commencing his role, Mr Wilkinson has “really enjoyed being a part of such a wonderful, supportive, connected and welcoming community”.
“The staff and students are simply fantastic, it’s truly a pleasure to be a part of,” he said.
Sacred Heart’s educational philosophy is centred on providing a safe and happy learning environment where transformative learning experiences ignite curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and empower students to reach their full potential.
The school aims to nurture lifelong learners who are well-equipped with knowledge and skills, developing into active and informed participants within their local and broader communities, and striving to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Looking to the future, Mr Wilkinson envisions Sacred Heart as the Catholic School of choice, grounded in the Mercy tradition.
He aims for it to be a place where every individual feels welcomed, where faith is nurtured, where service to others is valued, and where a lifelong love of learning is cultivated.
"I am committed to ‘sowing seeds for excellence’ in all that we do here at Sacred Heart," he said.
