A large crowd was eagerly awaiting the official opening at 10am with visitors coming from the surrounding area.
Originally the initiative of local Jane Harris, the Chamber of Commerce worked in conjunction with the Berrigan Shire Council to bring this unique activity to Finley during the school holidays.
Funding was obtained through the NSW State Government’s Reconnecting Regional NSW – Community Events Program.
The organisers considered options and decided on ice skating as it has been successful in other areas and would be something completely different to other activities in the Shire.
The venue at the showgrounds will be open daily until January 22, between the hours of 10am and 8pm with the last session booking at 7pm.
Isaiah Williams was steadied by dad Tyson at the ice skating rink.
Employees of the construction company Stars On Ice worked diligently at the pavilion in the lead up to the official opening and produced a magical atmosphere that had some of the younger members of the community mesmerised.
Skaters of all ages found the experience one to remember and it was a pleasure to see mums and dads assisting the youngsters who used the penguins for support on the ice.
Of course, the coffee van at the front door proved very popular with the parents and carers supervising activities.
Finley High School students are assisting in the administration as a fundraising activity.
Amos Inman, Jack, George, Gabbie and Rose Wiles together with Freya Inman shoe up prior to taking to the ice rink on Saturday.
