Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW Captain John Crittenden said both vehicles involved in the crash suffered significant damage, which initially had first responders fearful someone may be trapped.
Capt Crittenden said his team was called to the incident in a rescue capacity.
Describing the scene, he said the ute involved had its tray partially torn off.
The other car was so badly damaged down the driver’s side, he said the inner lining of the door was visible.
“It completely took the skin off (the car),” he described.
“Two ambulances were also in attendance, along with police.
“One driver was taken to hospital, while the other declined being taken to hospital.”
The crash occurred about 1.25pm Thursday, about 68km north of Jerilderie.
