A LEAP is designed by the community to help the community prepare for future emergencies.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali said the plans were important documents to ensure safer, more resilient communities.
As part of the workshop arranged by a local group, emergency agencies and the council, participants will collaborate to identify local risks, impacts and develop practical ways to help the community prepare and recover from emergencies including floods and bush fires.
“Community based emergency management is about working together to be safer and more resilient.
“Local knowledge is one of the most powerful tools in emergency planning, so I encourage residents in Merrigum and surrounds to attend the workshop to have their say to ensure the plan is shaped by their needs,” Cr Sali said.
The plan ensures residents are prepared with their own action plan to protect their safety and assets, while providing a framework for communicating and supporting others in the area during an emergency.
Community members can join the Leaping into Safer Communities workshop on Monday, March 30, from 6pm to 8.30pm at Merrigum Senior Citizens Hall, where a light supper will also be provided.
