There was a real buzz about town in anticipation of Tom Hawkins’ return to his childhood football club late last week, and the celebrations continue after an amazing win for the Cats.
Hawkins added some star power to the already determined Finley Cats seniors when they took on traditional Good Friday rivals the Deni Rams under lights at Finley.
The town made sure to welcome the recently retired AFL Geelong Cats legend home, with signs and decorations providing some fanfare.
On game day, the Finley Football and Netball Club estimates a crowd of more than 4000 came out to the Cats and Rams showcase - boosted by the home-grown hero’s return.
As well as giving his all on the field, the club said Hawkins graciously made time for fans too.
“The smiles you put on everyone’s faces were priceless. Not one person missed out on a signature or photo opportunity,” the club said.
