Under the old covenant, before Jesus came into the world, believers had to follow the law and it was expected that they bring their tithes to God.
A tithe is ten per cent of the money they made.
With the coming of the New Testament we went from being under the law to being under grace.
When we surrender our lives to God, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us.
The Holy Spirit speaks to us, teaches us and directs us. The Holy Spirit prompts us and leads us in our giving.
In today’s scripture, we are told to give not under compulsion or reluctantly, but to give what we have decided in our hearts.
In other words, we are to follow the promptings the Holy Spirit places in our hearts.
God knows how much we should give.
The key to blessing in a person's life is generosity.
If we follow the prompts of the spirit and give according to His will, He will open the windows of heaven over our lives.
The more generous a person is, the more God will trust them with an endless supply.
God blesses us to be a blessing to others.
