More than 200 earlier risers battled cold winds to attend the Girgarre Anzac dawn service in Progress Park on April 25.

At 6am, the service commenced with an introduction by Girgarre RSL president Gary Kitt.
“Soldiers come from all sorts of backgrounds, but they all shared the terrible experience of war.
“Ever since then, for more than 100 years, the men and women in our navy, army and air forces have honoured the original memory of our Anzacs,” Mr Kitt said.
The solemn service saw guest speakers such as Girgarre RSL secretary Bill Perry, who read the poem Where Poppies Grow, and prayer led by Girgarre RSL vice-president Robyn Hunt.
Mr Kitt read The Ode before The Last Post was played by bugler Mark Bray.
A minute’s silence was observed, and Girgarre Primary School students Ruby Marjoribanks and Taylor Hine lowered the Australian flag to half-mast.
Wreaths were laid at the memorial by Stanhope RSL president Phillip Chapman, Kyabram Legacy chair Don Cook, and on behalf of Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell.
Attendees were asked to come forward and lay wreaths or poppies. Thirty-six poppies were laid.
After the formal proceedings, members of the Girgarre RSL cooked up a Gunfire Breakfast across the street from the memorial for attendees to enjoy and reminisce.
Hope in the horizon: On a chilly Girgarre morning, poppies and wreaths were laid by the memorial by attendees to pay respects and remember the fallen.
