Last week members of the Jerilderie Monash Committee, Gwen McLaughlin, Helen Huggins and Irene Wells, travelled to Wongarbon, near Dubbo, to check on the progress of the life-size bronze sculpture of a young John Monash with Ned Kelly and his horse.
Renowned sculptor Brett (Mon) Garling is producing the statue, which is looking fantastic in clay, and will be brilliant when cast in bronze.
The unveiling of ‘The General and the Bushranger’ sculpture, now valued at $500,000, is planned to take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024 in the RSL Park.
The sculpture depicts an incident which took place back in 1878, a year before the Kelly Gang robbed the bank in Jerilderie.
It will be a wonderful attraction for Jerilderie, and of interest to historians and tourists.
