It might not have been the race that stopped a nation, but the recent Ferret Races hosted by St Joseph’s Catholic School community certainly made an impact in Jerilderie.

It was a fun night and raised a considerable amount for the school.
It will help to fund or subsidise such things as overnight camps, updated technology devices, or pay for special projects around the school.
Special thanks to Jerilderie Football and Netball Club for their support in facilitating the event, and the Apex Club for their donation of meat and the EFTPOS machine.
Thanks to Elders’ David Rankin for his auctioneering skills, which contributed to the success of the night, and to Tania, Maria, Sophie and Max for the top job of feeding the multitude.
And let’s not forget Lucy and ‘Whippy’ for their bar work, and Katrina for a great job as MC.
Thanks to the race sponsors, those who donated items for the auction and raffles, and those who came to support the event and enjoyed themselves.
Finally, a big thank you to Whitey’s Ferret Racing for providing the little creatures that were the stars of the show.
We hope they will return for another round.

On September 26, Murrumbidgee Council is hosting Flipstars Pop-up Gymnastic Classes at the Sporting Complex, as a school holiday activity.
Registration is essential, through the council website.

The NSW Children’s Week 2022 Art Competition is open to all children and young people up to age 18 years, living in NSW.
Art work must depict how the artist is keeping safely connected with family, friends and community during this time.
Artwork can include drawings, paintings, photographs, digital illustrations or videos.
There are three age groups: Under five years, ages six to 11 years, and ages 12 to 18 years.
Three winners will be selected from each group to receive an award and prize.
Entries close Friday, October 7.

Applications are now being invited for the 2022 Sir John Monash Education Bursary.
The theme for this year’s essay is referencing Sir John’s famous quote: “Adopt as your fundamental creed that you equip yourself for life, not solely for your own benefit but for the benefit of the whole community.”
Entry is open to long-term residents of Murrumbidgee Council who are considering entering into post-secondary education through university, college, TAFE or an approved course of formal training with a registered training organisation.
Entries close at 4pm on Friday, October 28.

Registrations for the Portsea Holiday Camp 2023 are being taken at Murrumbidgee Council’s Jerilderie office.
The camp will run from Monday, January 16 to Friday, January 20.
A deposit of $200 is required by Friday, November 4, with the balance by Friday, December 9.

Jerilderie Public School celebrated SASS - School Administrative and Support Staff - Week last week.
There was special acknowledgement of the contributions made by Victoria, Minette, Kelly, Tiffany, Judy, and Craig.

Casting and rehearsal for the JPS school production of ‘The Frog Prince’ are underway, with Mrs Helen Dickie directing.
It will be something to look forward to after the COVID-19 hiatus.

Not long to go now until the return of the Jerilderie Gold Cup event.
It will be held Saturday, September 24 at the Jerilderie Race Course, with all the bells and whistles.

St Joseph’s Catholic School hosted students from Jerilderie Public School and Oaklands Central School at the recent informative talk by Denise and Bruce Morecombe of the Daniel Morecombe Foundation.
The mission of the Morecombe Foundation is to educate children about safety.

Some staff changes have occurred at St Joseph’s Catholic School.
Eliza Robertson is now on maternity leave.
Lorna Koschel will be full-time K/1 teacher.
Matt Davis will be working one day a week as a teacher’s aide, and Brad Aylett is a teacher’s aide five days a week.

Happy birthday to Sylvia Rorato, who had an extensive celebration of her recent 70th birthday.
It started with a girls’ weekend in Melbourne with Sylvia and Lou’s three daughters, Michelle, Tanya and Melinda. Sylvia was treated to some pampering and fun activities.
On the actual birthday, September 7, Sylvia and her daughters went to Cobram where they caught up with relatives, including Sylvia’s mother and sisters.
In the evening Sylvia, Lou and family had dinner at the Jerilderie Colony Inn, and last Saturday a group of Sylvia’s friends gathered with many relations for a surprise long ‘girls only’ lunch in Shepparton, at Stanley’s Cafe.

Local people were saddened by news of the death of Bruce Bryan during the week, at the age of 91.
Bruce had been in care at the Jerilderie MPS for a short time.
Sympathy is extended to those nearest and dearest to Bruce.
His funeral is this Friday at 10.30am.
Sympathy also to Janet Burchatt, Nathan, Katie and family, following the death of their husband and father, Paul, on September 10.

The Jerilderie Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Pop Up Nursery and Markets on Saturday, October 22.
The Jerilderie Fishing Club will be holding their Family Fishing Competition at Lake Jerilderie, Luke Park, on Sunday, October 23.
On Friday, October 28, the Jerilderie Uniting Church Flower Show will be back at the Civic Hall.
