Fresh from her win at the 2025 Romantic Writers of Australia Conference, Mrs Mackie will speak about her writing journey and the inspiration behind her award-winning work.
A former student of Finley High School, Mrs Mackie grew up in the region and now lives in Queensland’s Southern Downs.
Her visit to Berrigan library is a homecoming of sorts, and a celebration of local talent making waves on the national stage.
Readers and aspiring writers alike are encouraged to attend what promises to be an inspiring and engaging event.
Best known for her beloved Barrington Series, Mrs Mackie’s novels are a heartfelt tribute to small-town life.
Her stories capture the warmth, humour, and complexity of regional communities, offering readers a sense of home - whether they’ve lived in the country or not.
With nine best-selling titles in the series, fans eagerly await each new release, drawn to the richly developed characters and the emotional depth of her storytelling.
Mrs Mackie’s literary journey began in 2020 with her debut novel Charlie’s Will, which quickly rose to the top of Amazon’s charts.
Since then, she has become a respected voice in Australian fiction, also co-authoring the Love in a Sunburnt Land anthology series and mentoring emerging writers across the country.
Her recent RUBY Award in the Romantic Elements/Women’s Fiction category was for her novel The Barrington Book Club.
The RUBY Awards are the highest honour in Australian romance writing, judged by both readers and industry professionals.
“I’ve been dreaming of writing books since I was eight years old,” Mrs Mackie said.
“To be recognised at this level is such an honour and a reminder that stories written in small country towns can resonate far beyond our own backyard.”
Mrs Mackie will use this week’s visit to the region as the launch for her latest book, One Good Man.
It will be held at the Berrigan library from 10.30am.
There is a $5 fee to attend, which includes morning tea.
Bookings are essential. Call the library on 5888 5180 or email berrlib@berriganshire.nsw.gov.au.
