Members of the Berrigan Rural Fire Service brigade sharpened their skills during a training day on Sunday, as preparations continue for the upcoming fire season.

Berrigan RFS Vice Captain Riley Nolen said the session focused on ensuring members were ready for the challenges of the months ahead.
“Coming into fire season, it's important to refresh skills,” VC Nolen said.
Training activities included fire line exercises, overrun procedures, drafting and equipment checks, as well as navigation and driver refresher training.
“We covered fire or string line practice and different techniques and methods on the hose, along with refreshers for drivers,” he said.
A total of 13 members attended the training day, with participants ranging from some of the brigade's newest recruits through to long-serving members.
The training was followed by a barbecue and brigade meeting.
VC Nolen said the brigade would also be out in the community this weekend as part of the NSW RFS Get Ready Weekend.
“This Sunday we'll be at the Berrigan Show for our Get Ready Weekend," he said.
“There will be information available, kids' activity packs and an opportunity to squirt the hose.
“If anyone is interested in joining the brigade, we are always chasing new volunteers.”
The brigade is encouraging residents to stop by the display, learn more about bush fire preparedness and find out how they can become involved as volunteers.
