Investigators have determined a heater was likely the cause of a fire which has gutted a Girgarre home.
Seven CFA units attended a house fire which broke out at about 9.56am at Station St, Girgarre on Wednesday, June 25.
Upon arrival, crews found a structure fully involved with fire and immediately began suppression efforts.
A community information warning was issued on the VicEmergency app at 10.45am, informing residents that while no immediate threat was imminent to the community, smoke was visible from the home.
The fire was deemed under control at 10.52am and declared safe at 12.15pm.
There were no occupants inside the house at the time of the fire, however, the owner of the house announced on social media that their dog was trapped inside and died.
A CFA spokesperson said investigators determined the fire was likely caused by a radiant electric heater being tipped over.
