The event will include a livestream to the Albury Winter Solstice, created by Annette and Stuart Baker after they lost their daughter Mary to suicide in 2011.
The event has been supported by Wellways’ StandBy Support After Suicide program, which this year is partnering with the Southern Riverina Wellbeing Collaborative to bring the event to Finley.
StandBy acting program coordinator ACT Murrumbidgee Kristen Simmons said the aim is to create a space for local people to gather and reflect together, and to witness the Albury Winter Solstice without having to travel to Albury.
“The evening will include the Albury stream, featuring Olympic swimmer and mental health advocate Leisel Jones, along with poetry, music, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
“We’ll be serving comforting winter food – soups, sausage rolls, scones and hot beverages.”
The Finley event will be hosted at the Finley School of Arts. Doors open at 5pm for a 6pm start.
While free to attend, RSVPs are requested by going to https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/1371996882609?aff=oddtdtcreator.
