The proceeds were raised at the Red Cross’ annual Fashion Extravaganza held over two days in December, coinciding with the Berrigan Night Markets.
Berrigan War Memorial Swimming Pool Committee president Sue Chisholm expressed her thanks on behalf of the committee.
‘‘A generous donation of $4,609 from Berrigan Red Cross Fashion Extravaganza has enabled the Berrigan War Memorial Pool Committee to purchase a defibrillator which is considered to be a vital piece of equipment,’’ said Ms Chisholm.
‘‘The balance of the funds will go towards next season’s subsidised entry fundraising campaign.
‘‘This is an amazing gift to our town made possible by the dedicated hard work of our Red Cross committee.’’
Now in it’s 14th year, the Fashion Extravaganza sees brand new designer and boutique clothes sold for up to 90 per cent off their recommended retail price.
Proceeds from the first fashion event, held during the Night Markets, is donated to the Red Cross’ humanitarian settlement program in Albury, Wagga, and Griffith.
Berrigan Red Cross branch treasurer Lyndall Horne said proceeds from the second event is donated to a local initiative.
‘‘Not only have we supported similar groups like the war memorial hall in the past, we also wanted to acknowledge and support the Berrigan War Memorial Pool Committee for its’ continued commitment to free-entry,’’ Mrs Horne said.
‘‘We were delighted to assist in this by making a donation that would guarantee continued free-entry for all residents in the coming summer.
‘‘The committee also saw the need for an on-site defibrillator, which was purchased using a portion of our donation.
‘‘As always we are thankful for the support of those who attended the Fashion Extravaganza.’’
Excess stock from December’s Extravaganza is now available for purchase at the Berrigan Red Cross store in Chanter St.
