Coordinated by Western Riverina Arts, the writing competition is also open to residents of the Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera councils.
Since its inception, the competition has grown into a flagship event for regional storytelling in the Western Riverina.
Past winners have gone on to publish original works, appear at national literary events, and build meaningful creative careers.
Running throughout August and September, the competition will culminate in a community celebration and awards presentation.
Winning stories will be published on the Western Riverina Arts website and featured in upcoming newsletters.
“This competition is such a powerful way to encourage regional storytelling and celebrate our region’s voices,” WRA communications officer Zooey Korhonen said.
“It showcases the incredible talent we have across all ages and reminds us that powerful storytelling happens right here in our communities.”
Western Riverina Arts is also inviting expressions of interest from arts and culture organisations or businesses who would like to support the competition through sponsorship, host this year’s celebration event, or fund a prize category.
Interested partners are encouraged to contact WRA to discuss how they can get involved in championing local storytelling.
Story entries will be accepted until Friday, September 19.
