Education the key to escaping a fine

Motorists are asked to check and abide by the parking restrictions in the CBD to avoid being fined, and impacting on access to businesses.

An education campaign on parking restrictions in the Edward River community may be forthcoming after a number of fines were issued recently.

Community members took to social media to express shock and disappointment at being fined for parking in the CBD.

Edward River Council CEO Jack Bond said while this is always “the last resort”, he said council staff were acting on community feedback.

Mr Bond said some businesses have raised concerns that parking access in front of their businesses has been limited due to CBD staff using it as all-day parking.

Most car spaces in the CBD are restricted to two-hour parking only, to limit this impact.

Mr Bond and Mayor Ashley Hall said there are non-restrictive parking options available throughout the CBD that could be used instead.

They highlighted the George St car park behind the Deniliquin Baptist Church and beside the Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW station as a prime example.

CBD staff and those who expect to stay in the CBD for an extended period are urged to take note of parking signs and restrictions, and use longer-term parking options where possible.
