On Monday, October 27, Campaspe Shire Council held the event, attended by Victorian Government members, councillors, park stakeholders and council staff.
The $13 million project has been in development at the council for many years, and received $11 million in funding through a Federal Government grant last year.
With $2 million in funding committed by the council, the redevelopment will include a state-of-the-art community hub, along with a new grandstand and change rooms.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell labelled the project’s official start a milestone, and said the works would ensure the park remained at the heart of Echuca for generations.

“The new multipurpose facility will provide modern amenities, support local events and create new opportunities for recreation and connection,” he said.
“I look forward to seeing the positive impact this redevelopment will have on our residents and visitors.”
State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said it was a great outcome for the project to be breaking ground.
The redeveloped community hub will also act as an emergency relief centre, which Mr Walsh said helped the project to receive funding following the 2022 floods.

“We’ve got to make sure that we’re better prepared in the future, but this is one of those things that will be better prepared,” he said.
“A lot of people have contributed to get to where we’ve got, but to actually have work starting is great for the town.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year, with updates in its progress available by visiting campaspe.vic.gov.au/vicpark
