From walking trails to community events, both action plans come after community consultations.
The Dookie and District Development Forum created the Dookie Community Action Plan, which aims to partner with the community, council, local businesses and other government agencies.
So far, the DDDF has delivered stages one and two of the rail trail, local tree planting initiatives, and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment and shade sails.
Improving paths is one of the priorities in Shepparton East.

The Shepparton East Community Action Plan, developed by the Shepparton East Community Planning Group, will prioritise enhancing child road and pedestrian safety, improving footpaths and shared paths and strengthening community engagement through events.
Since 2024, the Shepparton East CPG has organised a community movie night, a Neighbour Day BBQ and the installation of a new community noticeboard.
Deputy Mayor and Pine Lodge Ward representative Geoff Akers said both Dookie and Shepparton East had demonstrated community leadership.
“These plans reflect the passion, ideas and commitment of residents who care deeply about their communities,” he said.
“I am really pleased to see people coming together to identify what matters most to them and take practical steps to turn ideas into reality.”
Mayor Shane Sali said community action plans played an important role in empowering communities to shape their future.
“Community action plans provide a strong foundation for council to work collaboratively with our communities, ensuring local priorities are understood and considered as part of broader planning and decision‑making,” Cr Sali said.
