Echuca-Moama Theatre Company is already 40 auditions and bazillions of rehearsals down the track as it gets geared up to present this spectacular cult classic.
And it has spread its Transylvanian tentacles far and wide to recruit a cast not just out of this region but out of this world for the show.
Kyabram-based director Tricia Deakin said Dennis Carter filled the bill as the salaciously spellbinding Dr Frank-N-Furter, with Zay Ryan as Rocky, his muscle-bound “perfect specimen of a man”.
Echuca star of the stage Darcy Elliott has been cleverly cast as the sinister underling Riff Raff while soaring soprano Tamara Cadd stars as his devilish sister Magenta/Trixie.
“Our production has the lot — a high-voltage band on stage fully integrated into the performance,” Ms Deakin said.
“The plan is — and it’s absolutely firing in rehearsals — is by having the band as such a visual part of the show we will only be amplifying the gritty rock energy that makes Rocky Horror so iconic.
“We are guaranteeing audiences a thrilling fusion of vintage horror, glam rock and punk-inspired design.”
Rocky Horror first hit the stage in 1973, and it’s still gleefully smashing conventions as it follows the squeaky-clean Brad and Janet (played by Dylan and Indra Hubble), whose lives are turned upside down when they stumble into the castle of the flamboyant and frightening Dr Frank-N-Furter.
Throw in some weird and wonderful characters, including Columbia (Juliana de Quilettes), and Eddie/Dr Scott (Gerry Oman), and what unfolds is a wild night of rock ’n’ roll, liberation and self-discovery, guided perfectly by The Narrator (Honni Goulding).
