District response to Finley hay stack fire

More than 500 hay bales and almond husks were destroyed in a blaze which started at a Finley business on Friday afternoon.

The cause of the hay stack blaze in James Court Finley has not been formally determined, according to Finley Fire + Rescue NSW Captain Brian O’Hora.

Emergency services were alerted about 5.20pm, with 25 firefighters responding with five fire trucks.

This included a crew from Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW, which provided the compressed air foam system (CAFS) pumper.

This foam was used to extinguish the fire.

As the fire was contained to the hay stack, crews were able to leave once extinguished.

However, firefighters were called back to the storage sheds about 5.30pm Saturday due to a reignition.

When this was dealt with, the property was handed back to the owners for continued monitoring.
