A recent community survey has revealed near-unanimous support for reinstating full Licensed Post Office (LPO) services in Coleambally, following the town’s transition to a Community Postal Agency (CPO).
Of the 131 residents who responded, 94.7 per cent said they do not support the current arrangement, and 95 per cent reported they were not fully consulted about the change.
A further 97 per cent said they support Coleambally formally requesting the restoration of full LPO status.
Respondents cited the loss of key services such as Bank@Post, bill payments, PO Boxes, and secure mail handling as major concerns.
Many reported having to travel 25-85km to access services previously available locally, with some contractors now driving up to 850km per week to collect and sort mail.
The survey also highlighted impacts on older residents, and those with mobility challenges, who now face barriers to accessing essential services.
The Coleambally community is now preparing a formal submission to Australia Post, supported by a community brief and council motion.
The request calls for a Service Impact Review and the reinstatement of full LPO services to meet the town’s needs.
Documentation and analysis support for the campaign has been provided by this column’s editor, who is assisting the community in presenting its findings.
