Aimed at supporting school leavers, the grants program has expanded to include those furthering their careers through apprenticeships and tertiary institutions other than university this year.
“We recognise that further education and training can be a significant financial commitment for young people and their families,” a group spokesperson said.
“Whether a student is heading off to university, undertaking a TAFE course or commencing a trade apprenticeship, there can be considerable costs involved.
“We wanted our scholarship program to reflect the different pathways young people are now taking to establish their careers.”
The grant can assist with essential costs associated with study or training, including textbooks and computers, course materials and tools of trade, travel and accommodation.
The program is open to students who:
• Reside in Finley or Tocumwal (postcodes 2713 or 2714)
• Are completing Year 12 in 2026
• Intend to commence university, TAFE or an apprenticeship in 2027
• Can demonstrate commitment to their chosen course or trade.
Murray Hut CWA is also keen to recognise young people who have contributed to their local community.
Applicants will be assessed on their community or volunteer involvement, as well as the clarity of their future plans and goals.
Applications open on September 1 and will close on October 9.
Interviews may be required, and are scheduled for mid-November 2026.
Successful applicants will receive the grant once the applicant has accepted their university or TAFE offer, or confirmed acceptance of an apprenticeship with an employer.
