Spring is here, but the conditions have basically remained the same.
The sun makes its appearance from the east each morning, but rain and wild winds still pay us visits most days.
Those here before us were certainly on the ball when they referred to the area as Windy Place!
However, it is hoped that spring as we know it will not be too far away, and we can start to enjoy life on the outside.

Mathoura Football Netball Club is one group that seems able to take it all in its stride, and is already locking in players for the 2026 season.
They include returning players Mitch Worsnop, Mak Eddy, and Clint McNabb.
Joining them will be newcomer, Brodie Casburn.
This club is regarded as a ‘lesser being’ by many, but even after being ‘robbed’ of several top players some years ago, it has continued on.
The club puts teams of footballers and netballers - young and old - on the ground each week, giving them the opportunity to gain experience in these great games.

The Cobb Highway through the town seems to be regarded by visitors and travellers as a racing track these days, perhaps because the town does not have a full-time police officer.
Apologies Brodie, but it is well known that while you’re appointed here you’re required to do shifts in both Deniliquin and Moama – you can’t be everywhere.
The local community has launched a campaign to get a new police station for you.
We only hope you don’t have to wait as long as the Moama Police waited for theirs.
It’s just another example of if we want things done, we will often do things for ourselves.
We also have the Men’s Shed which helps people with repairs, and there’s a group of ladies who raise funds to ensure we retain the services of a community nurse.
Plus, we have the Bra Fence group, who provide funds to assist cancer sufferers with travel expenses.

After many years as your columnist, I have decided it’s time to pass the torch.
I intend to retire from writing the ‘Mathoura Diary’ column at the end of this year.
I would love for someone to take over from me, to ensure local news is provided to the Deniliquin Pastoral Times each week.
If you’d like to know more about what this entails, or would like to volunteer for the job, please contact me, or Pastoral Times content manager Zoe McMaugh at zoe.mcmaugh@denipt.com.au.
