Tocumwal will soon resonate with the sounds of classical brilliance as the acclaimed Penny Quartet brings its ‘Joy Abounds’ program to the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall on Saturday, June 14 at 3pm.
The event, presented by Music in the Regions in partnership with the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall Committee, promises an afternoon of stunning chamber music and community connection.
Following a successful national tour with Musica Viva, which included lauded performances at both the Perth and Adelaide Festivals, Penny Quartet now brings their refined artistry to regional audiences across the Riverina.
The War Memorial Hall is a venue praised by last year’s performers for its outstanding acoustics and welcoming atmosphere.
The ‘Joy Abounds’ program offers a musical journey through time and style, beginning with the elegant structure of Joseph Haydn - often hailed as the father of the string quartet. The performance then explores contemporary soundscapes with works by celebrated Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe and Grammy Award-winning composer Caroline Shaw.
The concert culminates in a vibrant tribute to Maurice Ravel, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
Tickets are available at musicintheregions.com, with general admission priced at $35, concession tickets at $30, and free entry for those under 18.
Attendees can also look forward to a light afternoon tea following the performance.
